RDEK to test Regional Emergency Notification System

The Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) will test its Regional Emergency Notification System (ENS) on Friday.

The RDEK says its alert system is an effective way for residents to be notified of an emergency impacting their property, such as wildfires, floods, or hazardous materials incidents.

“We are certainly trying to get the word out about our Voyent Alert system. If people register for that and there’s something in their area, that’s the quickest way for us to get ahold of them,” said RDEK Board Chair Rob Gay.

The RDEK says the service is free and available to everyone in the East Kootenay, including municipalities, rural areas, and First Nations.

RDEK officials say the test will happen at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 9, to cap off Emergency Preparedness Week.

You can register for the ENS here.

Those who are already registered should double-check to make sure their information is correct.
