Fernie tax rate bylaw given three readings

Fernie council has given three reading to the tax rate bylaw which will see a 7.46 per cent tax increase.

City staff say the increase will bring in $705,000 in additional municipal taxes and $135,000 in new construction tax levies.

The city recently approved its five year financial plan which included the tax levy increase.

The tax increase would mean a jump of $212.03 for a single-family home at the average assessed value of $925,235.

The tax rates bylaw will be up for adoption at future council meeting.

It must be approved before May 15.
