Columbia–Kootenay–Southern Rockies PPC candidate Laurie Baird

As the federal election grows near, get to know your local Columbia-Kootenay-Southern Rockies People’s Party of Canada candidate: Laurie Baird.

Who is Laurie Baird?

Laurie Baird was a mortgage broker in the Okanagan and Kelowna Real Estate markets for over two decades before entering politics.

She has also served as a strata president and worked as an admissions representative at CanScribe Career College.

Baird says she has been active in local initiatives including petitioning against certain public events.

“I am running because I believe we need a change,” she said.

The PPC Platform

The top listed issue on the PPC’s platform is diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI).

Their platform states that DEI is a far-left ideological fad imported from the U.S. and is being imposed on all sectors of Canadian society.

They say they will abolish all federal DEI programs and policies in the public service and in federal institutions if elected.

They will also prohibit DEI training sessions in all federal institutions and stop funding groups that promote DEI.

The PPC’s second platform issue is on immigration.

If elected, the party says they will impose a moratorium on new permanent residents for as many years as necessary until the housing crisis has cooled down.

They also plan to deport foreign temporary workers, foreign students, asylum seekers and visitors who are staying in Canada after their visas have expired.

When it comes to the environment and climate change, the PPC say they will withdraw from the Paris Climate Accord, abolish any climate related taxes, regulations, subsidies and programs adopted by the Liberal government.

The Federal election will take place on April 28.
