The Cranbrook Bucks are off to the second round of the playoffs for their first time in franchise history after defeating the Trail Smoke Eaters.

The Bucks took the series 4-2, winning 1-0 in Game 6.

Despite the low score, head coach Ryan Donald says the whole team played well.

“A 1-0 game. I don’t think we had that on the bingo card for the series but we’ll take that one,” he said.

“When you go through our goaltending, defence core and all the way through our forwards I think we had effort from every single guy which is an important part of winning at this point of the year.”

Blake Cotton scored the lone goal for the Bucks and goaltender Jaden Cholette got the shutout.

He says the players are getting a boost from some great fan attendance.

“The energy in the building was great. To have 2,300 people here, our guys feel that and certainly feed off that,” he added.

The Bucks will have their work cut out for them in Round 2 as they get set to face the top seeded Penticton Vees.

“We’ll spend a little time enjoying our win and then our staff will start to unpack some of our tendencies, get ourselves healthy and use the few days off to make sure we’re ready to go for Game 1.”

The next series has yet to be scheduled.
