Cranbrook snowpack still below average

The City of Cranbrook is expecting below average water from the city’s watersheds unless significant precipitation occurs.

Snowpack levels are slightly below average levels compared to 63 per cent of normal at this time last year.

“It’s looking like we will see below average water from the city’s water shed unless significant precipitation occurs for the remainder of the winter and into the spring,” said public works director Tony Hetu.

On the plus side there will likely be less of a flood risk.

“There should be minor to no flooding however there will be less water to fill up the Phillips Reservoir.”

The city will be rolling out new leak detection equipment this year to help identify leaks earlier.

Crews will also be using less water for spring cleanup to reduce use.
