Cranbrook contemplating OCP change for commercial development near Wildstone

Cranbrook city council has given first reading to an OCP amendment that would see a 13 hectare area near Wildstone change commercial designation.

Commercial development was not supposed to be a significant component of the Wildstone subarea.

Development was to be limited a convenience grocery, coffee shop and neighbourhood gathering place.

If the amendment is changed it would have hotel/retail and commercial district designation.

Planning manager Rob Veg says there aren’t any immediate plans for that area yet.

“Specifics of the commercial development haven’t really been identified, but this is to start the process.”

With the amendment passing first reading, the city will be conducting public consultation.

Any changes would also have to be approved by the Ministry of Transportation due to the property being close to Highway 95A.
