Kimberley RCMP respond to man in crisis posing public safety risk

Kimberley RCMP responded to a man in crisis who was suspected to have posed a threat to the public.

RCMP say officers responded to Stemwinder Drive on Thursday, January 30.

Nearby residents were evacuated from the surrounding area as police believed the man presented a risk to public safety.

The Southeast District Containment Team, Emergency Response Team and an RCMP Negotiator assisted the local detachment.

After an overnight negotiation, the man was taken into custody and will face several charges. He will appear in a bail hearing on Friday.

“The Kimberley RCMP would like to thank the public for their patience during this dynamic situation,” said RCMP officials.
