City acquires non-dedicated portion of 30th Avenue North

The City of Cranbrook now owns a lot on 30th Avenue North that was meant to be transferred over decades earlier.

The lot is between Kootenay Street and Stahl Road and was owned by the provincial government.

“This road dedication acquisition addresses a historical oversight which occurred when the city’s boundaries were expanded around 1970,” said engineering and development services director Mike Matejka.

“Now that entire section is consolidated and owned by the city.”

Just below that lot is where the construction is taking place for the 30th Avenue North extension.

It will provide an additional connection to the College of the Rockies.

The college is the one funding and overseeing the project, but it will eventually be a public city road.

City staff say the opening of the road hasn’t been finalized and they are working with the college to determine what safety improvements may be needed at the 30th Avenue North and Kootenay Street North intersection.
