Rockets eye off Columbia Valley Rockies

The Golden Rockets were able to snag a point in overtime in front of their fans on Friday but lost both weekend games to the Fernie Ghostriders.

Head coach Jed Houseman says it’s good to get the overtime point but they have been losing too many games in extra time.

“It was an important point for us to get and to tie it up late like that and push it to overtime was awesome for our group,” he added.

“I think we’re leading the league in overtime losses right now, so we’re playing a lot of tight hockey but we’re coming out on the wrong end.”

Cranbrook’s Liam Wienke had a good showing in his first game with the team.

He didn’t put up any points but Houseman says he was doing everything right.

“He was really solid for us, did a lot of the right things and I thought his control was excellent,” he said.

“He showed a lot of poise with the puck for a younger guy.”

The Rockets only have one game this weekend as they get set for a home game against the Columbia Valley Rockies.

“Columbia Valley has been a solid team, but I think we’ve shown that we can be competitive with all the top teams,” he said.

“It’s just about an internal battle and finding a way to get it done with our group here. It would be big for us to get that win on Saturday.”

The Rockets are last in the Eddie Mountain Division with a 5-10-4-3 record.
