Kootenay-Columbia MP Rob Morrison doesn’t think there will be a snap election this fall, but the Conservatives are still going to try.
“I don’t have a lot of faith in that,” he said.
“I hope we have an election but we’re in there for the long haul and will hold the government accountable.”
He says Canada needs an election and hopes they won’t have to wait until the fall of 2025.
“Hopefully in the spring. The sooner the better for an election,” he said.
“A change of government is needed and we also need to take a look at the outrageous spending.”
The conservatives will be bringing forward a non-confidence vote soon, but they will need the support of both the NDP and Bloc Quebecois.
Morrison isn’t optimistic that the NDP will vote with them.
“If they want to go with a non-confidence vote that’s up to them and they may wait and see what the Bloc does,” he said.
“If the Bloc votes with us then it’s up to them to really make a decision on non-confidence.”
The House of Commons resumed for the fall sitting on Sept. 16.
There is no confirmation yet on when the Conservatives will put forward a non-confidence vote.
