Power fully restored in Columbia Valley

The last of the outages in the Columbia Valley have been restored after Friday’s severe storm.

The majority of the widespread outages were restored that weekend, but there were scattered outages that remained until Aug. 27.

However, a lightning storm on Aug. 27 caused another power outage in the Invermere area.

Power was out for nearly 6,000 customers, but it was turned back on within an hour.

The Aug. 23 storm wreaked havoc on the Columbia Valley causing damage to boats and downing trees.

“We’ve certainly had a lot of destruction and I’ve never seen anything like that before,” Miller said.

“The crews are working so hard and we appreciate BC Hydro for all they’re doing.”

The Columbia Valley RCMP said they received 19 calls for service that night.

Those included multiple alarms, abandoned 911 calls, hazardous situations and marine incidents.

Police confirmed there were no reported injuries.
