The Cranbrook Rotary Club and JCI Kootenay have joined forces once again to launch phase three of the Moir Park Trail project.
Rotary Club of Cranbrook President Joe McGowan said work is set to kick off on Saturday, Aug 17.
“There’s going to be a whole bunch of people getting together to construct the base of 450 metres of new trail. It’s going to be paved and accessible for mobility-challenged people,” said McGowan.
McGowan said the new paved trail network will provide an amazing view of Cranbrook.
“This provides people with an opportunity to go for a walk and enjoy an incredible view,” said McGowan.
“You can go up just five metres and you’ll suddenly see the Steeples and Fisher Peak shining through. It lets people go out for a walk and showcases our local area.”
Phase three will involve the construction of a paved trail connecting the entrance to the dog park, baseball fields and the south end of the park.
McGowan said they have a full workforce ready to lay the trail foundation.
“The Rotary Club, JCI Kootenay, McElhanney, the City of Cranbrook, Terus Construction and Emco Waterworks have donated a great deal of material and skills, and we’re going to have about 40 volunteers up there with 11 machines,” said McGowan.
“We hope to be done with the gravel base by the late afternoon.”
The paved surface will come at a later date when Terus Construction has time to finish up.
This is phase three of a four-part project that will see the construction of an accessible paved trail network around Moir Park.
