Cranbrook Transit use nearing pre-pandemic levels

Transit use in Cranbrook has been increasing steadily and has almost reached pre-pandemic ridership.

“This past year we’re seeing a full recovery. The City of Cranbrook is almost at that pre-pandemic level,” said BC Transit government relations manager Elise Wren.

“Compared to other transit systems in B.C., they are either in the same position or now just starting to surpass that pre-pandemic level.”

Ridership in 2019/20 was roughly 200,000 and Cranbrook currently is just shy of that.

Wren said it shows there is still a large need for public transit.

“Despite working from home, online classes, telehealth appointments and online shopping, there’s still a return and a need for public transit despite these large societal changes.”

Cranbrook is currently averaging 16.14 passenger trips per hour. That is up from 13.43 last year.
