Avalanche risk considerable throughout region

The avalanche risk in the area is at level 3 which means the chance of a human-caused slide is likely.

Avalanche Canada officials said small avalanches could occur in many areas, large ones could be triggered in specific areas and very large slides could happen in isolated areas.

The risk is the same throughout the East Kootenay.

Avalanche Canada advises that recreationists watch for fresh storm slabs building throughout the day and to be cautious as they transition into wind-affected terrain.

Conditions may taper off to moderate later in the week.
