Operation Street Angel Robbed in Cranbrook

Operation Street Angel in Cranbrook is facing a major obstacle after a theft over the weekend, leaving them low on food to serve the community.

The Ktunaxa Nation program provides meals and services to assist those in the community that are facing adversity or challenges or may not otherwise be able to afford it.

Over the weekend, some people managed to break into Street Angel’s food supply.

“They had broken into our back shed,” said Tammy Pocha with Operation Street Angel. “We have four freezers and two and a half freezers got emptied with product of meat that we use every day for cooking for the individuals that come to Street Angels.”

Pocha said the theft has set the program back as they now look to restock on provisions so they can continue to provide their services to the community.

“Now we got to try and refurbishing the product that we’ve lost to keep the food coming on the tables, so it’s going to cost us quite a bit to get it restored back up,” Pocha told MyEastKootenayNow.com. “We’re missing about over $2,000 worth of meat.”

Pocha said Cranbrook RCMP are investigating, but that any members of the public that may have information or details about the weekend theft can contact the local detachment at (250) 489-3471.

Any members of the public that would like to support Operation Street Angel can make a donation, located at 46 – 17th Avenue South in Cranbrook by Balment Park.
