Winter season is arriving with snow in the Elk Valley this weekend

Fall and Summer driving is officially coming to an end with snow expected this weekend.

Mainroad East Kootenay is advising those traveling this weekend of snow flurries in the Elk Valley.

Mainroad said drivers should expect one to three centimetres of snow.

They urge drivers to ensure their winter tires are installed and in good condition, as well as to slow down and drive according to conditions.

Mainroad vehicles will be preparing for the winter weather, and drivers should stay back from plows and the Mainroad vehicles that are responding.

They urge anyone that notices issues on East Kootenay Highways to call the 24-hour hotline at 1-800-665-4929.

Mainroad reminds drivers that the posted speed limits are designed for ideal conditions.
