Elkford mayoral candidate Lindsey Armitage campaigns on communication and transparency

Elkford mayoral candidate Lindsey Armitage said improving communication between the district and residents would be a key priority if she is elected on Oct. 17.

Armitage, a mother, small business owner and community volunteer, said her involvement in Elkford helped motivate her decision to seek the mayor’s chair.

She is involved with the Elkford Rod and Gun Club and Elkford Snowmobile Association and said volunteers play an important role in maintaining the quality of life enjoyed in smaller communities.

“I’m running because I want to make that difference to our community, and I feel that it’s time for a new perspective and fresh change for our future steps going forward.”

Armitage said Elkford has become home to her family after more than four years in the community.

“It feels like home, and it’s where we want to be, and we want to make an impact and a difference in our daily lives and for the lives of others.”

Heading into the election, Armitage said her main campaign priority is improving communication and making it easier for residents to understand what the district is doing and why council makes certain decisions.

“No one should have to read through 50 pages of agenda items and meeting minutes to understand what’s happening in their community. So, my primary goal is to have that transparency and open up that communication for our community.”

Armitage said she wants residents to recognize the influence they can have on the community’s future by voting.

“They can make a difference in what happens for our next generations that are coming up behind us,” she said.

Armitage also said voters should consider candidates’ broader leadership abilities rather than focusing solely on previous council experience.

“I don’t think it should necessarily be a matter of prior experience with council, but leadership style in general is something that should be considered with that.”

General Voting Day in Elkford is Saturday, Oct. 17.
