Cranbrook RCMP receive reports of election signs being vandalized

The city of Cranbrook urges the community to “do better” after reports of destruction to election signs for the upcoming municipal election.

City officials remind residents to report damaged election signs or acts of vandalism to police.

Following reports of damaged and stolen election signs the city asks the public to respect candidates campaign materials as political signage is important to the election process and protected by law.

City officials say no matter how you feel about the signs or candidates, the signs are not your property and they belong to the candidate and their campaign.

The city reminds the public that acts of damaging, destroying or removing signs, may enact an offence under section 430 of the Criminal Code.

Anyone who sees acts of vandalism or damaged election signs is asked to report it immediately to the RCMP at 250-489-3471, and any issues with election signage placement should be reported to the city’s Bylaw Service by calling 311.
