Cranbrook city council has directed staff to develop a budget, funding strategy and project plan for a new welcome sign along Highway 95A.
Council supported moving ahead with planning for a smaller secondary gateway sign near McPhee Bridge at the city limits.

Other options presented included a larger primary sign for about $50,000 or an enhanced monument sign for roughly $100,000.

The secondary gateway sign was chosen as it best fits the space and its estimated cost is $25,000.
The project is framed as a civic gateway initiative that takes a consistent approach to signage, wayfinding and destination development and supports the Tourism Master plan.
The city could use a design created for Cranbrook in 2021 that reflects the community’s mountain setting. This design proposal would help reduce design costs and keep future signs consistent.
There may be an opportunity to partner with College of the Rockies on the project, allowing students to help design and build the sign.
Three possible sites have been identified, with McPhee Bridge being the preferred option. The locations still need to be reviewed for visibility, utilities, maintenance access and other technical concerns.
