Road and trail closures in Fernie start Tuesday

The city of Fernie will have some road and trail closures in effect starting Tuesday.

Pine Avenue will be closed from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. between Ridgemont Drive and the Aquatic Centre’s first driveway on September 8, to allow crews to complete asphalt repairs.

A signed detour through Silveridge, St. Margaret’s Road and Coal Creek Road will be in place.

The city is also studying the stability of Ridgemont Ridge to determine whether four city-owned lots are suitable for future development.

Trail-widening work begins September 8 along Cemetery Bypass and Lower Eco-Terrorist to ensure a drill rig can safely reach the site. During this work those trails will be temporarily closed.

Upper Ridgemont trails will still be accessible through the Cemetery Bypass Extension.

Another short closure of Cemetery Bypass and Lower Eco-Terrorist is planned for September 22 while the drill rig is moved to the site.

The city asks the public to follow all signage, and closure areas to help keep the public and workers safe.
