Public access is no longer restricted around the Jumbo Creek wildfire after a decrease in fire activity, the BC Wildfire Service said.
The 1,136-hectare wildfire is burning about 38 kilometres west of Invermere.
The wildfire service said crews no longer need to keep the public out of the area, although the fire remains an active worksite and hazards remain.
People entering areas affected by the wildfire could encounter unstable fire-damaged trees and ash pits that remain hot after flames have disappeared, the service said.
Officials can also order people to leave the area under provincial wildfire legislation if conditions require it.
Smoke could remain visible inside the fire perimeter for several weeks. The wildfire service said smoke from burned areas within the perimeter is common, but smoke coming from green, unburned vegetation or outside the perimeter should be reported.
Road closures and access restrictions can change as fire conditions change. Updates are available from the BC Wildfire Service.
The Southeast Fire Centre covers an area stretching from the U.S. border north to Mica Dam and from the Okanagan Highlands and Monashee Mountains east to the B.C.-Alberta boundary.
