Public feedback will help shape new active transportation plan

The City of Kimberley is updating its Active Transportation Network Plan to reflect current community needs.

The plan, originally completed in 2021, looks at ways to make it safer and easier to walk, cycle and travel around the city without a vehicle.

The update will focus on current community needs, gaps in the transportation network, accessibility, safety, traffic-calming measures, speed management and better connections between routes.

Public engagement will run from August through September 2026, giving residents, businesses and other groups a chance to provide feedback.

Engagement will include an online project page, stakeholder meetings, discussions with Kimberley’s Accessibility Advisory Committee, an open house and a public survey expected to launch this week.

After feedback is collected, the city will prepare a “What We Heard” report and use the findings to help shape the updated plan.

A draft plan is expected to go to council and the public for review in winter 2026.

The final updated plan is expected to be considered by council in the first quarter of 2027 or early in the second quarter.

The city is working with Urban Systems Ltd. on the update. The consulting firm also helped develop the original plan.

The project is already included in the city’s financial plan and is being funded through a grant.
