Bylaw Services remind public to follow all camping bylaws in Fernie

Fernie Bylaw Services is reminding the public about rules governing camping in the city.

Camping is not permitted in city parks, at city facilities or on city streets, including in vehicles, according to Bylaw Services.

The city has installed no-overnight-parking signs at Maiden Lake following an increase in camping in the area.

Bylaw Services advised residents and visitors to follow parking and camping rules to avoid possible fines or having their vehicles impounded.

The city advised the public to:

  • Follow posted signs and parking restrictions.
  • Not park vehicles or trailers in the same location for more than 72 hours.
  • Keep recreational trailers hitched to a vehicle unless they are parked on private property.
  • Use designated campgrounds in and around Fernie that have amenities for overnight stays.

Camping or parking concerns can be reported to the city through its Request for Service system.
