Lost youth found in Fernie forest

Elk Valley RCMP and search crews have located a missing youth in Fernie who got lost in the woods.

On Tuesday, Aug. 4, police were contacted at around 2 a.m. by the mother of a 14-year-old.

She said her son had entered a wooded area in Fernie and could not be located.

Family and friends of the youth had been searching for over three hours but couldn’t locate him.

Elk Valley RCMP, Cranbrook Police Dog Services, an RCMP drone operator and Fernie Search and Rescue looked through the night and found the youth just before daybreak.

The kid was showing signs of hypothermia and was attended by a police medic before being transported to the Elk Valley Hospital.

The youth is out of hospital and expected to make a full recovery.
