Drug Alert issued in Cranbrook

Interior Health has issued an alert for Cranbrook for drugs being sold as sown, dope, tranq and fentanyl.

The drugs look like pink chunks and pebbles.

They contain high amounts of medetomidine and fentanyl.

IH officials said there is a high risk of a fatal overdose.

Medetomidine is a very strong non-opioid tranquilizer 200 times stronger than xylazine.

The drug slows down breathing and heart rate and can make overdoses longer and more complicated.

Drug checking is available at ANKORS in Cranbrook from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Friday.
