Several temporary road closures tomorrow in downtown Invermere

Valley Appreciation Day in downtown Invermere tomorrow will result in temporary road closures.

Motorists should plan ahead by using alternate routes, allowing extra travel time, following all road closure signs and detours, and driving with caution through the downtown area.

Valley Appreciation Day is a free community event being held in downtown Invermere on Saturday. The event will result in several roads being closed to vehicle traffic from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Increased pedestrian traffic is expected.

Road closures include 13th Street from the intersection with 7th Avenue to the B.C. Liquor Store, the roadway in front of Eddie Mountain Memorial Arena, the Lakeview parking lot and sections of 12th Street adjacent to Village Arts, Stolen Church, River Gems and Book Bar.

Although access to 13th Street in front of Eddie Mountain Memorial Arena will be closed, 4th Avenue and 7th Avenue will remain open.

No overnight parking will be permitted on 13th Street, the previously listed sections of 12th Street or in the Lakeview parking lot. Owners of vehicles that remain in those areas after 6 a.m. may be responsible for towing costs.

Saturday’s celebration will feature the Invermere Farmers and Artists Market, a complimentary pancake breakfast, live entertainment, family activities, community displays and a classic car show.

To maintain access for businesses, deliveries, nearby parking areas and local traffic, the alley between the curling club and Selkirk Cellulars & Office Supplies, as well as the alley beside the B.C. Liquor Store, will remain open.
