Council gives three readings for fire services changes

Sparwood council is moving forward with amendments to the fire services bylaw.

The fire services bylaw was originally adopted in 2008 to establish the framework for fire services in Sparwood.

The proposed amendments are being brought forward to update legislative references to reflect current provincial law and improve administrative efficiency.

Council has also directed staff to include the removal of annual permits for backyard firepits.

Permits would only need to be renewed if the property changes ownership or the installation no longer complies with the bylaw.

The updated bylaw will also look at potential boundary adjustments along Highway 3.

Council has given three readings and it will be up for adoption at a future meeting.
