Wayne Price running for council, not mayor

Cranbrook’s mayor Wayne Price is running again in the 2026 Municipal election, but not for mayor.

He’s decided to step away from the role and will instead run for councillor.

“At my age I thought it’s time to step aside. We have a lot of young business people in this town and it’s time for some younger heads in there,” he said.

“It’s quite time consuming so now there’s more time for my wife.”

Cranbrook council could be seeing some big changes.

Price said only one current councillor is for sure running again.

That’s why Price decided to put his hat in the ring.

While new voices are important, he said it’s also good to have some people with previous council experience on the team.

“Right now councillor Wes Graham was the only councillor committed to running. This council functioned extremely well and there are so many good projects on the way,” Price added.

“If you get too many new people in, it’s a really hard learning curve for some of them. I figure I can still bring something to the table, a little bit of consistency and guidance if it’s needed.”

Price served one term as mayor and was councillor for one term before that. He said if he’s elected this year, it will be his final term.

Current councillor Lynnette Wray is running for the mayor’s seat, as well as former MLA Tom Shypitka.
