Sparwood sees decrease in calls to police

The Elk Valley RCMP had 269 calls for service in the Sparwood area from January to March.

That was a decrease from 318 during the same quarter of 2025.

While total calls were down, the area did see an increase in break an enters to businesses. They rose from four to 13.

Staff Sergeant Svend Nielsen said it was a busy quarter for traffic incidents due to bad weather in February.

The extreme weather caused closures on Highway 3. Officers responded to that and then had to monitor traffic flow once the highway reopened.

Impatient drivers were creating hazardous situations.

The full quarterly report can be found here.
