Elk Valley firefighters and Fortis BC respond to gas leak in Hosmer

Elk Valley firefighters responded to a gas leak in Hosmer after a gas line was struck on Wednesday afternoon.

Five units from Fortis BC and three members from the Hosmer Fire Department responded to the call.

No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.

Elk Valley & South Country Rural Fire Deputy Chief, Ben Goertzen, said the gas leak began after an accident with an excavator.

“A resident on Stephenson Road struck a gas line while using an excavator,” said Goertzen.

While the gas leak was being repaired by Fortis BC, Stephenson Road was closed for two hours.

“We are grateful to the residents of Hosmer for their patience as we kept the area safe,” said Goertzen.

Fortis BC reminds the public to click or call BC 1 Call (1-800-474-6886) prior to disturbing the ground in any way.
