Kimberley approves wildfire risk reduction project funded by grant

Kimberley city council has approved a wildfire resiliency project funded through the Columbia Basin Wildfire Resilience Initiative Grant.

Fire Chief Will Booth requested an amendment to the first year of the 2026-2030 five-year financial plan to include a $112,000 operating expenditure.

Council approved the request at a recent meeting. The expense will be fully funded through a grant from the Columbia Basin Trust to support a fuel reduction project.

The project is intended to reduce wildfire risk along Highway 95A between Marysville and Kimberley, a key evacuation route.
