Cranbrook firefighters respond to challenging blaze

Cranbrook Fire and Emergency Services responded to a fully engulfed house fire on the 300 block of 7th Avenue South in Cranbrook.

Crews were called out just after 6:00 p.m. on April 27.

Five members and two fire engines initially responded and found a single-family residence fully involved in flames on a busy street in a high traffic neighbourhood.

More firefighters were paged from home to assist.

Fire chief Scott Driver said they were challenged by aggressive fire conditions throughout the property and there was significant vehicle and pedestrian traffic in the area.

The fire department was assisted by the RCMP who helped get control of the number of onlookers.

Driver said there were no injuries to the occupants, pets or firefighters, but the home was a complete loss.

“This is a very difficult and emotional time for the homeowners and their family,” said Driver.

“On behalf of the Cranbrook Fire Department, I would like to extend our sincere condolences to those affected by this fire as they begin the process of recovery.”

A cause has not been determined and the investigation will be continuing today.
