Fernie approves development variance permit for lot subdivision

Fernie city council has issued a development variance permit to complete a subdivision without constructing a sanitary service connection.

The lot is located on Whitetail Drive adjacent to the planned Fernie Elementary School lot at 30 Cokato Road.

School District No.5 has full and exclusive first right to purchase the lot upon subdivision.

Normally a sanitary sewer connection would be needed for any sort of development, but SD5 has no plans to build anything on the property.

The intent for the lot is for it to be used as green space when the school is built.

The school district plans on purchasing the property once the building permit for the new school has been issued.
