Dynamiters take 2-0 series lead over Posse with weekend sweep

The Kimberley Dynamiters hold a 2-0 series lead over the Princeton Posse after a pair of home wins over the weekend.

Kimberley opened the series with a 3-1 victory in Game 1, powered by Jaden Rusznak’s 11th goal of the playoffs, which stood as the winner. Adam Kisilevich made 24 saves to secure the win, while Toren Fron added an insurance marker late in the third period. Ben Dods replied for Princeton, cutting the lead to 2-1 early in the first.

“We had a great start and then struggled to find our bearings until midway through the second period,” Dynamiters head coach and general manager Derek Stuart said. “I thought we got better as the game went on.”

Game 2 was tighter, with Kimberley edging Princeton 2-1 to take a commanding series lead. Kisilevich was again a key factor, turning aside 30 shots in front of a crowd of 1,418.

After Simon Cecconi opened the scoring for the Posse just 1:40 into the first period, the Dynamiters responded quickly. Callan Valstar tied the game 50 seconds later before Jake Murdoch netted the eventual winner on the power play late in the period.

Despite the loss, Princeton limited Kimberley’s offence, holding the Dynamiters to 13 shots, eight of them in the first period.

With two wins on home ice, Kimberley now heads into the next stretch of the series in control, while Princeton looks to regroup and climb back into the matchup.

The teams will meet on Tuesday in Princeton at 7 p.m.
