Cranbrook extending insurance coverage to 2026 election workers

Cranbrook city council approved an agreement so those working on the 2026 municipal election can be covered by the city’s liability insurance.

Normally anyone providing services for the city is required to have their own insurance.

Finance director Charlotte Osborne said that can create a barrier for people wanting to be election workers.

“All contractors are required to carry liability insurance which is often quite prohibitive for small contractors. The MIA offers a service provider policy option to their members.”

The associate member insurance would provide full coverage up to $5 million.

The city would be responsible to pay the deductible if a claim is brought against the service provider.

The cost to city to offer the insurance is $250 per year.
