Boil water notices continue in Cranbrook and Fairmont

Residents in both Cranbrook and Fairmont will have to keep boiling their water until further notice.

City of Cranbrook staff said they are monitoring the water quality and the boil water notice will be lifted once all water tests come back clear.

The notice had to be issued after a slug of low chlorinated water followed by a slug of high turbidity water entered the water system.

Fairmont’s boil water notice also remains in place.

A complete power failure in the water system caused a depressurization in the entire service area.

Boiled water should be used for drinking, brushing teeth, washing fruits and vegetables and making ice.

Water should be brought to a rolling boil for at least one minute.

A water quality advisory is also in place for the Ridgemont area of Fernie.

While not as severe as a boil water notice, children, the elderly or people with weakened immune systems may want to boil their water.
