Council has given third reading to a proposed multi-phase residential development in the Wildstone area.
A public hearing was held on Oct. 20, with several residents speaking out against the proposal.
The planned development consist of two phases, with two buildings built in each phase. Each building would be a four-stories with 63 units, a total of 252 units on completion.
The majority of concern was around impacts to traffic and there only being one entrance.
A traffic impact study was completed and it found the current intersections would continue to operate well with the increase in residents.
Councillor Norma Blissett said the city should look at making sure there’s a secondary entrance but it shouldn’t hold up the development.
“I don’t want to see development stopped because they can’t put a road in,” she said.
“I think we need to go ahead with this and I think we need to go ahead with getting a second entrance.”
Council passed third reading in a 5-1 vote.
Coun. Wayne Stetski cast the lone vote against.
“The people of Cranbrook expect the municipal government to have their backs around what happens in their neighbourhoods,” he said.
“I’d prefer to stand with the people of Wildstone in rejecting this very serious change to their backyard.”
The proposal will return for adoption at a future council meeting.
