Cranbrook shelter up and running

Cranbrook’s new homeless shelter is officially open, providing 40 beds to residents in need.

The Step Beyond Shelter will provide a bed, showers and food for people experiencing homelessness and connect them with additional supports.

Staff will also try connect clients to other housing options.

“We do have a policy where if you do turn down housing that we helped you find on two occasions then you won’t be eligible to access a bed here,” said Community Connections Society executive director Nancy Reid.

Residents will also be able to partake in a number of programming like physical activity, arts pursuits, one to one supports and group supports.

The shelter will have a full rotation of approximately 25 staff members.

The shelter is funded by BC Housing and run by the Cranbrook Community Connections Society.
