Pair of prescribed burned planned for next week

The B.C. Wildfire Service will be conducting two more prescribed burns in the East Kootenay next week.

A 80 hectare burn in the Kootenay River Ranch area is planned for Monday, Sept. 22.

Smoke may be visible from Canal Flats, Fort Steele, surrounding communities and drivers traveling on Highway 93/95.

On Tuesday, Sept. 23 a prescribed burn near Invermere is expected to go ahead.

It will cover 26.2 hectares in the Toby Benches area.

Toby Hill Road will be closed to traffic during the first day of operations.

The prescribed burns are weather dependent.
