Local SAR groups staying busy

Local Search and Rescue groups have had their work cut out for them with multiple rescues in the past week.

Last week, Columbia Valley Search and Rescue were called out to back-to-back events.

The first was assisting Parks Canada in the successful search for a missing hiker in the Marvel Pass area.

The hiker was found safe and sound after a two-day search.

Not long after, crews were called out to a overdue person in the Shangri-la area of the Purcells.

The were found safe after a short search.

The Cranbrook Search and Rescue assisted an injured mountain biker on Curly Trail in the Community Forest on July 29.

The biker was transported to medical care.

SAR is advising that accidents like this can happen anywhere even if it’s well known terrain.
