Cranbrook council has given second reading to a proposed housing development in the Wildstone area, but there is a lot to be done before final approval can be given.
The development would consist of two phases with two buildings built in each phase.
Each building would be a four-stories with 63 units, a total of 252 units on completion.
The proposal has been met with some resistance from neighboring Wildstone properties, with the main concern the potential increased traffic on Wildstone Drive.
A traffic impact study will need to be completed before a public hearing will be held.
City staff are also encouraging the developer to hold a public information meeting to answer resident questions.
Councillor Blissett voted in favour of second reading saying they should get more information before the proposal potentially gets shut down.
“I think it should move ahead at this point. I think we should be open to the information that will be provided by the traffic impact assessment and also the information that comes from the advisory planning commission as well as what comes out in the public hearing,” she said.
“We need to have open minds heading into the process.”
The date of the public hearing will be set after the traffic impact study is finished.
