A Cranbrook driver caught going 2 fast 2 furious in an attempted street race has won a seven day impoundment and a ticket.
Cranbrook RCMP officials say an officer was patrolling around Cranbrook Street North on the evening of May 26 and noticed a Ford F350 truck and a Toyota Supra car initiating a drag race.
The truck sped off and police clocked it at approximately 100 kilometers per hour in a 60 zone.
Police say they conducted a traffic stop without issue and the driver had a lengthy record of recent motor vehicle offences.
“This dangerous driving behavior is reckless and puts everyone at risk,” said S/Sgt. Barry Graham, Cranbrook RCMP Detachment Commander.
“As the weather warms up, we tend to see an increase in unsafe driving behavior. Cranbrook RCMP will be on the lookout for speeding, impaired driving, motorists who do not obey traffic lights or stops signs and other driving offences”.
So far this year the Cranbrook RCMP have issued 36 traffic tickets, 11 traffic warnings and impounded 55 vehicles due to impaired driving.
