Cranbrook city council has decided to move forward with a alternative approval process (AAP) to consider borrowing up to $3.5 million for the Phillips UV disinfection facility.
The AAP will officially open on June 6 and close on July 18.
The city will be allowed to proceed with borrowing the money unless at least 10 per cent of electors submit a completed Elector Response Form by 4:30 p.m. on July 18.
Resident electors must be 18 or older, a Canadian citizen, have lived in B.C. for at least six months and have resided in Cranbrook for the last 30 days.
The total number of electors in Cranbrook is 15,727.
The city received $9.5 million from the provincial and federal governments for the project.
An new UV disinfection facility will address safety concerns and improve water quality.
