The Cranbrook RCMP saw 2,262 reports between January and March, a slight decrease from the same time last year.

There were 2,387 reports in the first quarter of 2024.

Theft of vehicles saw a big decrease from 15 to one this quarter, while total assaults were up slightly from 66 to 73.

Motor vehicle accidents had a big jump from 29 to 105, however zero of them were fatal.

RCMP officials say they were able to execute a search warrant at a residence which led to the seizure of suspected controlled substances and stolen property. Several individuals were arrested.

The detachment also safely apprehended a dangerous offender from Alberta and a a high-risk offender from Creston driving a stolen vehicle. Two officers were injured during that incident.

“It has been another busy quarter for our team both in volume and intensity of calls. We appreciate the public’s patience and understanding when our response to non-emergency calls is delayed due to time sensitive or violent incidents in progress,” says S/Sgt. Barry Graham.

“Additionally, increased administrative demands coupled with the exponential growth in data management, in part due to body worn cameras, make it difficult to regularly engage in proactive patrols. We are grateful for the support of the Community Engagement Coordinator and Cranbrook RCMP volunteers for their assistance in supporting many of our crime prevention initiatives in the community.”
