Police in Cranbrook have received numerous reports of theft and vandalism to campaign signs.
Police say the reports have come from various locations around Cranbrook and they aren’t specific to one candidate or political party.
Defacing, altering or steeling election signs is an offense under the Canada Elections Act and could also be considered an act of mischief.
While there are no indications specific individuals are being targeted, as we approach voting day, the Cranbrook RCMP would like to remind the public to express their political views in the voting booth and not resort to acts of vandalism,” said S/Sgt Barry Graham.
Any complaints about the destruction, theft or vandalism of elections signs should be directed to the Commissioner of Canada Election and reported to the Cranbrook RCMP non-emergency line.
