Fernie to begin community-wide street sweeping

Fernie will begin its own spring cleaning as the annual street sweeping program kicks off on Monday.

Crews will work their way through Fernie to clean up gravel and sand from the community’s roads, starting in the Annex area.

You can see a breakdown of areas scheduled to be cleaned here:

  • Annex – April 28 to 30.
  • Maintown – May 1, 2 and 5.
  • Mountainview – May 6 and 7.
  • Parkland/Alpine/Ghostrider – May 7 and 8.
  • Castle/Montane/Coal Creek – May 8 and 9.
  • Ridgemont – May 9 and 12.
  • West Fernie – May 12 and 13.
  • Riverside/Cedars – May 13 and 14.

“You can help them get our city streets in tip-top shape by completing any of your own boulevard clean-up in advance and using off-street parking when they’re scheduled to be in your neighbourhood,” said city officials.

The city could begin boulevard clean-up on Monday, May 5, but it will depend on weather conditions, resources and equipment availability.

Crews will do a final sweep of the community in May to pick up any remaining sand left behind.
