Resident praised for quick thinking as vehicle goes up in flames near Hosmer

Quick thinking by a homeowner has prevented a vehicle fire from spreading and causing more damage in the Hosmer area this evening.

Elk Valley and South Country Rural Fire & Rescue Acting Chief Ben Goertzen says crews arrived to find a single vehicle fully engulfed in flames on the south end of Dicken Road in the Artina Mobile Home Park.

“We want to acknowledge the quick action of the homeowner, who made use of a nearby excavator to ensure the fire didn’t spread beyond the vehicle involved.”

Although the fire was quickly confined and contained, the vehicle is a total loss.

A total of 7 firefighters and 4 pieces of apparatus responded to the fire, including members of the Hosmer Fire Department. They remained on site until the fire was fully extinguished and cooled.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation; however, is not considered suspicious in nature.
