Fire Department to spark controlled burn in Kimberley Nature Park area

If conditions allow, the Kimberley Fire Department, working with the Cranbrook Fire Zone, will conduct a 20-hectare prescribed burn on City-owned land this weekend.

The City says the burn will take place in the Levirs Avenue/Nature Park area as part of ongoing efforts to reduce wildfire hazards on the west flank of Kimberley.

Crews will target cured grass, branches, twigs, and litter from shrubs.

Residents will likely see smoke during the day and overnight for several days, depending on weather conditions.

Workers will be on-site for several days to snuff out any lingering fires and limit the impacts from smoke.

“Thank you for your cooperation and understanding as we work to enhance the safety of our community,” said the City of Kimberley.

You can see a map of the impacted area below.
