City of Fernie crews are starting the demolition of the outdoor skating rink today.
The rink was originally put in as a temporary alternative to the memorial arena after it was closed due to ammonia leak.
Demolition work is expected to last three weeks and the area will be fenced off for public safety.
City staff say the work will include the removal of the building and C-cans on site.
The site of the rink is also designated for the Elk Valley Field House Society’s proposed facility to replace the closed community hall.
City staff say services to the dirt jumps and volleyball courts will be maintained and will resume once the project is complete.
