Invermere to begin community-wide water line flushing

Invermere residents may start to see some discolouration in their water over the coming weeks as crews get set to begin flushing the community’s water lines.

The District says flushing will begin on Monday, April 14 and continue until Monday, May 26.

Crews will work along one street at a time from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekdays.

Minerals and sediment being flushed out of the system may lead to discolouration in your water, but the District says it should not impact water quality and staff continue ongoing treatment and testing throughout flushing operations.

If you have discoloured water, you should run the cold water tap until it comes out clear.

The District says annual flushing is vital for maintaining the community’s infrastructure and eliminating any sediment that has naturally built up over time.

“It may help identify other issues in the system, assess the flow rates for firefighting purposes and it can improve water taste, odour and colour,” said officials.
